Developed by Forsan Real Estate, the mosque is dedicated to the memory of Abdulaziz Abdullah Sharbatly. His spouse, Wajnat Abdulwahed, led this visionary project as a tribute to her late husband.

The construction of the mosque reflects a blend of traditional architectural values and modern technology, emphasizing Saudi Arabia's commitment to innovation in line with its Vision 2030 initiative. The adoption of 3D printing technology not only expedited the construction process but also drastically reduced waste, supporting sustainable building practices.

The mosque's design brilliantly incorporates natural light and features striking minarets, establishing it as a significant landmark in the region. This project does more than just demonstrate the capabilities of 3D printing in large-scale constructions; it positions Saudi Arabia at the forefront of technological progress in the architectural realm.

Advantages and Characteristics of Construction 3D Printing

Construction 3D printers, comparable in size to small houses, can directly spray building materials like concrete and mortar onsite to construct walls and other structural elements. These printers offer rapid construction speeds and high efficiency, ideal for building low-cost housing.

For instance, Apis Cor, a company based in Mexico, utilized 3D printing technology to build a 70 square meter house, completing the main structure in just 36 hours.

Moreover, 3D printers can achieve complex and unique architectural designs, such as curved surfaces and intricate cutouts, offering greater freedom and flexibility in architectural creativity.

Multiple Applications of 3D Printing in the Construction Industry

In the construction field, the applications of 3D printing extend beyond merely printing houses:

● Architectural Models

Before constructing actual buildings, architects often create scale models to visualize and present their designs.

For example, the HPRT F210 high-resolution FDM 3D printer allows for rapid prototyping of these models, offering a faster and more cost-effective method than traditional model-making techniques. These models, rich in detail, vividly showcase the complex structures and aesthetic elements of buildings, becoming indispensable tools for architects.

● Custom Architectural Components

This technology allows for the creation of custom-designed architectural elements, such as panels, lighting fixtures, and furniture. These unique components can be tailored to fit specific dimensions and aesthetic preferences of a building project, offering a personalized touch that would be more challenging and costly with traditional manufacturing methods.

● Urban Planning

Detailed 3D models of urban areas can be invaluable aids in the planning and development of new districts and the revitalization of older ones. These models help planners and stakeholders visualize spatial relationships and impact more effectively.

● Historical Reconstruction

For historical preservation, 3D printing offers a way to reconstruct parts of historical buildings that have been damaged or deteriorated over time. This method not only restores the true appearance of historical buildings but also preserves cultural heritage, breathing new life into historical structures.

The application of 3D printing technology introduces new ideas and methods to architectural design and construction. Furthermore, it drives innovation in the building industry. As technology continues to advance, 3D printing will play an increasingly broad role in the field of construction, creating more beautiful architectural spaces and urban living environments.
